That is a beautiful quilt, SBG!!! I love each block and all the fabrics. Congratulations on finishing such a challenging quilt! Hopefully you are keeping this one for yourself?

Those Farmers wives are. Huge undertaking. Congratulations on your beautiful finish.

SBG, lovely with the reproduction fabrics and a few feed sacks. Wow what a treat to some some of the real fabric from the era. .
I am still plodding along with mine. Up to 81 blocks finished. Only 29 more to go! Oops, 30 to go. On block needs to be redone for better color contrast. I am look at a Christmas time finish. So many blocks and so many other quilts to do. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/hug.gif |
Congratulations on finishing, Sewbiz- it’s gorgeous, and very cool that you had some real feedsacks to use along with the reproductions.

Congrats on a great finish SBG

Thanks so much everyone! If it wasn't for the QAL (The Pony Club group) I may never have made it. Took maybe a year to get the blocks all made, two per week. Then they just sat in a stack for years. So glad to get it completed. It's one of my favorite quilts I've ever made.

Sewbiz, such a gorgeous finish, just lovely
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Stunning, sewbiz! Fantastic finish and it would be a favorite for me, too. Just beautiful!

SBG~ Your FW quilt is a real treasure! Congrats on the fab finish!

Thank you for all your nice comments about my Farmer's Wife 1930's quilt. So glad you like it!

This morning I visited my friend here & she dug through a closet looking for fabric to cover a large cushion. In the depths we found many, & I mean many, finished quilt tops. Her daughter who lives out of state sewed them 15-20 yrs ago. One has been quilted so I brought it home to bind it. It has issues- folds & tucks, but I do not want to take it apart. The top is really pretty & my friend loves it. I will complete it as is & return it to her. I like precision, but I'm not undoing all that stitching. My friend won't care at all. So I hope to add a UFO to our June tally
|
I wouldn't take it out either. Who quilted it, maybe it's part of the love that is comforting.
|
Conchalea: Bless you for letting it go and binding it. Your friend’s happiness will make it worth overlooking those issues.
|
I agree, Conchalea.....the mishaps are part of the character of the quilt. Endearing... I bet those quilts are all beautiful! So coo!
|
Thank you everyone for validating my decision & easing my guilt. The colors used are forest green, cranberry, & a floral with those colors. It looks , feels great, & it will keep someone warm when needed. I completed it & will return it to my friend today. I may not take another yet, my left shoulder is hurting a lot, probably from my activities these past few weeks. I've ridden my motorcycle about 530 miles total, painted 1 bedroom, & sewed a lot too. All of these put a strain on my shoulders, & the left is complaining.
|
Conchalea, can we see the quilt?

I finished my second UFO of the year. I started it in 2016, aiming for no repeating fabrics. But that's not why it became a UFO. I was using a thrift store white sheet for my background and ran out half way through. I didn't want a difference in shades of white so into the UFO draw it went. I pulled it out last month and decided just to go ahead and finish it with a quilting cotton white. I made a few extra blocks from the Birthday Candy Swap so it would be a nice size throw. I'm really pleased with my first attempt at ruler quilting in the alternating blocks too. It was a fun learning curve.
|
NZquilter: Beautiful! Congratulations on learning to ruler quilt.
|
That's totally gorgeous, NZ! Love how you grouped according to color. Nice quilting, too.
|
That looks great NZ! I love the way you distributed the colors and your ruler quilted motifs are fabulous.

Thanks for the nice comments! All three girls instantly claimed it as a playroom quilt, so I'm glad I used polyester batting for many washes.
|
A sweet quilt, NZq! Well done
|
Fantastic, NZ! It's gorgeous as is your quilting. I love that your babies claimed it...lol..

wow I am Thinking that is the first multi color Irish Chain quilt I ave seen...love it, fabulous job 😊 |
After spending lots of time finishing up 8 quilts to the point of ready to quilt I finally dove into that step today. I managed to get 2 quilted- one is a disaster quilt that’s been sitting around for about 5 years I do not like it, but it is finally quilted. I’m just going to fold the backing over the front, machine stitch it down and drop it off at a resale shop- ready for it to be done & gone.
the second one I love and am happy to have it finished. I’m going to try to get 2 more done this weekend and maybe a third one loaded, ready- the 2 I did today were both about 60”, I think the next 3 are a little bigger- 72” or so- then I will be to the queens- I decided to start with the smallest and work my way up ( instant gratification is motivational sometimes) after I finish these 8 I have 6 UFOs left that just need either a few more blocks or borders- I just might manage to get them all done this year. I managed to clean and organize my sewing room ( with help- a day with my sister) I actually took 9 large garbage bags of scraps and fabrics that just had to go away out- gave to a couple church groups who make quilts for the homeless and shelters and a couple bags went to friends who make things not quilt related. My room is nice a neat, I can see what I have- not overwhelming any more so getting things done. I am ( finally, after 10 months) going back to work on Monday- part time. I always seem more creative and motivated when I’m working. I hope everyone is getting through our crazy times with many more smiles than frowns |
ckcowl: Awesome job with those UFOs. Have fun returning to your part time job.

Someone mentioned not having seen multicolored IC. Here is another multi colored Irish Chain from about 4 years ago. This was my firs IC and I actually sold it to a gal who wanted a snuggle quilt for her couch. Love the one by NZ. More intricate and more colors than mine and the medallions in the white space are a a perfect choice.
|
I love your colorful Irish Chain quilt Nzquilter. It flows beautifully. The quilting is beautiful too.
|
I really like your colorful Irish Chain WMUTeach, it would fit into any setting. I really love the * pops* of Orange in it. Adds a great sparkle.

Trying to upload a photo of the in-progress tree skirt...
So I meant to post this to the VQW thread, but was looking on here for info about how to post a photo (which has changed rather since I did it last - it has been a while), and accidentally uploaded it here... Which is actually a fortunate accident, since I'd been thinking I should join the UFO thread anyway. And the tree skirt is a UFO (albeit not my most longstanding, lol), so I guess this works... Tho to clarify, no it isn't finished yet ;-) I have 4 UFOs, of which the tree skirt is the smallest, and so probably the most likely to get done anytime soon! So I may have kinda tripped and fallen with my entrance, but Hello Everyone!! :-D (watch it post now with no photo even though it worked the first time...) |
Hello and welcome, Panchita! Lovely tree skirt.
|
Well I managed to get all 5 of my ( smallish) Quilts quilted- biggest was 60” x 72”- now all I have left is one queen and 2 kings.
I looked through the stack of ( need a bit of work yet ) UFOs and 3 of them I decided to just pass on- I don’t see myself ever finishing them , or wanting them if I did- so they may as well go to someone else who may finish them. Soooo all I have left is borders on 2 and a row of blocks on one. Yea! I’m looking forward to moving on without the stacks of UFOs. I still have one ufo that is about 17 years old now- it has always seemed so ( huge- time consuming) I just look at it once a year & put it back away- telling myself I just don’t have the time for it ( yet). Maybe- with the other UFOs done I can actually invest the time to work on it.....the only ( commitments) I have looming is a couple baby quilts. It’s a thought. I would love to finally have that box gone. My skills have improved greatly over those 17 years- I hope I don’t have to start over . |
Good job, CKCowl!
|
Welcome Panchita! Beautiful tree skirt...
The Irish Chains are beautiful, ladies! Amazing pops of color..... Love the Stars Ckcowl...I remember seeing it last year in the UFO challenge and I saved a picture of that. I am finally starting my new bed quilt. Been collecting fabrics and deciding on pattern and finally picked one. It's a King and has a gazillion HST's so I'll be using the HST paper to make 18 at a time. Never used it before so I'm testing it today. |
I’ve used the HST paper a few times - it sure speeds up the process and mine came out much better than some of the methods I’ve tried
|
ckcowl and Teen here's a method to use making 8 at a time without the paper.
