I finished my clue 5 and have started on clue 6. I still need to trim a couple of earlier clues. It will take me quite a while to get this clue done since I am using donated neutral 1.5" by 2.5" bricks and will mix them up with some that I cut from 1.5" and 2.5" strips. Definitely slower than using longer strip pieces and then sub cutting but I will be using up the donation bricks so slow is good. :)

I’m waiting to do step 6 a little later. I’m thinking I need another neutral fabric that goes with the other fabrics. My gut feeling is some of this clue will be sashing between blocks. I’m also thinking our block size will be 8”. I’m curious if, I’m right or not. I’m slowly catching up. I have clue 5 completed, and clue 1 just needs finished squaring. 1st half of clue 3 is 1/2 way done. I only need to mark my 100 1/2 sqs and sew etc. tomorrow I will post examples of my steps.

I’m enjoying seeing all of your progress. Very pretty. I really enjoy the variety in the background selections as well. In a week or so we will see completed tops.

2 Quick questions on Clue #6 please:

1) The dimensions given are 2 1/2 x 8 1/2 and 2 x 8 1/2 - are these the finished dimensions? Usually Bonnie tells us that the blocks will be X inches when finished. She didn't do that this time, so I am confuddled.

2) Are these blocks supposed to be string pieced tumblers or just string pieced rectangles?

Thank you in advance! Thanks also for providing me with how many blocks to make for a half sized quilt!

I found an old phone book, did a few blocks of string piecing and decided I dont like doing it. So I will just cut out the clue 6 with my yardage and not have it be so scrappy. I dont want to wait as she suggested as I will probably get a panic feeling of getting behind if I do. I will use some of my really pretty neutral for this one and we will see how it goes with the finished top.

I am assuming that the sizes given are unfinished sizes. You are right, she is usually careful about saying what size they will finish in the quilt.

They are not tumblers; the graphic at the top of the clue does show some thick, wonky pieces, but you don't have to do wonky if you don't want to. I'm not bothering with wonky with these neutral units.

I'm surprised we didn't get a clue today. Maybe we will go past New Year's this year!

Clue 6 - I'm on pins and needles anticipating the next step.

#657 JENN8r, I just love your step #6 blocks, so pretty. Yea, I have time to catch up, yea. I did go out and bought more background fabric for this project at 30% off of batiks. Of course I went a little overboard. I’m curious how it will all look. Back to catching up.

Thanks Karen! I used the neutral birthday swap candy squares to get a big variety of fabrics. It took longer, but it's very scrappy. I did the same for the red/neutral four-patch squares. The only problem with using the swap candies this way is that I no longer have any red or neutral candies left.

#659, I guess that means we will see you for another year in the BD candies swap. It looks great. I really like your progress.

Here’s my progress so far. I find if I get behind a few steps I work faster. I don’t get as bored with 1 step. Right now i’m Working on 3 steps and each steps has extra pieces. I roughly calculate and see where I am at the reveal. In the end, Extra units become another project later.
