I've made 2 quilts since Frolic- one for our King bed and one for my granddaughter. They are both nearly finished. I haven't even looked at my Frolic.
Maybe if I leave it long enough I'll start liking it lol. |

OragamiGF, love your quilt and fabric choice...it looks awesome.
I have been away from Frolic for a couple of months but just pulled all my pieces out yesterday and just finished the 25 pairs from Part 8. Looks like I will be able to start construction blocks from here. : ) still trying to figure out how to post a photo : / 1. Write message 2. Click "Go Advanced" 3. In the box labeled Additional Options click "Manage Attachments" 4. Click "Browse" and locate your photo whereever you saved it on your computer. 5. Find the photo you wish to post click save and then upload.*** This seems to be where folks stumble. The little box with the "Browse" button needs to be expanded so you can see the "Upload" button. It is on the far right and hidden until you expand the box. 6. Preview Post and make changes if you wish or add an additional photo. 7. Click "Submit Reply". **** I save my photos in a quilt photos file by year, but I also keep a second copy in a file where the photos have been resized to "medium". This format will allow you to post to the QB. It seems there are multiple ways to do this and it all depends on your computer and software preferences. I Hope this helps. It took me way too long to figure this out when the QB made changes but now it seems to work well for me. Hope it will work for you too. |
Carol in Wisconsin: I like the third choice also. Pretty quilt top.
|
I like the dark blue border. Centers and frames the quilt. Her patterns are always so busy...I find I like the rest.
you said you would need to buy more fabric and that would mean either 1) waiting for delivery or 2) leaving the house. So....the choice is yours. |
Thank you WMUTeach, I will give it another try today.
SusieQ, i was wondering where you were in the BH Frolic, especially since it was your first one of her mysteries. I am going to designate 4 hours a week on it...which means I’ll probably spend more than 4 but if I at least set a goal for 4, it will make me more mindful. Carol WI, I think the border audition in picture 3 would be perfect. I can’t wait to see what you decide. |
Carol, the dark blue finishing border looks wonderful!
I've been piecing like there's no tomorrow. I find I need frequent breaks from the intensity of a more difficult quilt, so I keep starting simpler projects in between working on my En Provence, which I'm determined to finish before getting back to my Frolic. I'm putting together the last border, so very close to having the top done. |
Susie,
I love your Frolic, your colors are amazing you did a wonderful job even if you don’t t like it now, perhaps later on you will, kudos to you for toughing it out. |

Another day of preparing the units using the neutral squares so I can begin assembling the blocks.
I'm using WMTeach instructions and crossing my fingers a photo will appear. : O |
jmoore: Congratulations on succeeding with a picture! Nice selection of colors.

Yes, thank you WMUTeach, I have been singing your praises in other threads so don’t be surprised if a few members reach out to you. : )
I use Photoshop Express to resize my phots to medium and then they upload just dandy...but I have to do it on my IMac as I can no longer upload photos from my iPad |

Now you are cooking Jmoore, with your blocks and pictures both! Lovely colors, I'm rather liking it without sashing.

JMoore- I love your blocks!
JMoore and Tallchick- Thanks for your comments. |
jmoore, I use this site to reduce my file size. It doesn't do much more than that but that makes it easy! As an added bonus it doesn't set off my virus scanners:
https://www.reduceimages.com/ I just use the default settings it offers and then download the file from there, then when I upload it here it is already in the Downloads directory which is a default search option here. Periodically I do some file management of my downloads directory and store the images in my quilts folder. I know Macs are different in some details but as an added help, I reduce my overall main window size to about half screen on the bottom half and so the drag down spot for the graphic is visible (this makes sense if you visit the site). It stays at the shape I defaulted it to because I dragged in the corners. Then I click on File Explorer option and I've resized that window to fit above the reduced main window, so I just drag my image from one screen to the other. Because of my vision issues, I do use rather large pictures for the default in my file manager and not file names. It really is just drag and drop. Photoshop is awesome and does many things but I don't have it on this system. My issues are using older technology, so I'm transferring from an actual digital camera and the camera software is not up with today's standards and options! I mean, I think we were still using disks back then... |
Jmoore your blocks and color are stunning. I can hardly wait to see the finished top.
Iceblossom - you are much more technically advanced than I am....sounded kinda like Greek to me. |

It's so hard to explain things well, Carol... if I was more technically advanced I could shoot a video or at least take screenshots... now there's an idea! Let's see if this helps --
First off, I use firefox and have a bunch of protection stuff on my system, it probably does not look like yours, but they all have the same features. Picture one shows my reduced screens, quilting board is the first tab, the reduction is the second. My file manager which in my setup of windows is the File Folder icon on the bottom next to the search bar, I click that to get it to be where I want it. Because I shaped and moved it before and because I have my system set to default when I do stuff like that, it is always that way. I drag the picture from my file manager into the box on Reduce Image site, then I maximize the screen and follow their prompts and defaults to reduce the image and download it to my system. Picture 2: After typing my post in Fast Reply I hit go advanced and find the manage attachments section. Picture 3: This shows the defaulted attachment screen, I have to CTRL click to get there but I think that's just one of my lockdowns. I click into the folder to find the Download directory up near the top as one of the default search locations and select the file. Picture 4: You have to stretch that out to get to the upload button. |

Oh, here's a picture of the default directory where I choose a file between shots 3 and 4 above.
The file directory actually appears over the top of the lower screen, I just moved the screen to show where it was. You can see the default file directory for you to search your system. Downloads is one of the first options and where I usually go. For these I had to find the Screenshot directory which isn't something I regularly use. It's funny -- if you look closely at the file manager window I have for it (background top center screen) you will see the screen shots I've been taking for this appear in the order I've been posting. I do love technology and doing something new, but back the regularly scheduled Bonnie Hunter thread. I hope those who have been having problems posting pictures do manage to figure out their issues! |
jmoore: Very pretty blocks.
Iceblossom: Great way to explain how to download pictures. You have a generous spirit. |

Iceblossom, thank you for all the details for posting pictures. I hope my pictures now come through ok. I have finally finished frolic and the pieced backing. This is huge - 113 x 113 and it will go to the LA quilter soon - if she is willing to take curb-side drop offs:). Now I get to spend tomorrow putting away all these fabric and think of the next project.
|
Oh I love your dark sashing! And the border treatment. Thanks so much for getting the pictures in.
I saw Bonnie is offering a project for during lock down but I have decided no way, not right now! I've finally gotten out of the "hangover" I had from Frolic! I'm happy with my super bright project -- happy it's done. But I'm glad I did it. |
Carol, congratulations on a wonderful finish! It looks like you put lots of work into the backing, too!
|
Carol,
I love it! Your dark sashings really set off the colors, very dramatic! Congratulations on finishing it, be sure to show us again when it’s all quilted. |
Carol: Awewsome top and backing! Congratulations on getting the pictures to load.
Iceblossom: I started Bonnie Hunter’s Unity quilt. We will be assembling it as we go if I understood correctly. I won’t make it as long as hers so I will probably need to stop before the end or make all of the units and use them in something else. |

Half block confusion......
So I’m at “that stage” and in looking back at all the instructions no where did it tell me to make more than required clue 8, yet it appears that I will need more than what’s called for? What am I missing here? Did I miss a step? I did keep up all the way to the end yet I’m lost. All of clue 8 was used and I have no extras needed for the half blocks, I’m stumped! |
Tallchick, I was so careful not to use numbers in this thread, but there is one of the steps where it is only mentioned briefly about having one set of completed blocks, and one set of partial blocks. The clue came out in early February, I think we start discussing it around pages 120-130 in this thread. I think Joe's Mom was the first to that step. I know finding out how many unused partial parts bothered me -- so I solved that by making more and that's how I ended up with the 9 blocks I used in the back.

There was Set A and Set B -- the two groups of units/pieces we ended up with. Set B should contain the pieces needed to construct those extra tri-colored geese.

I got the inner border put on my quilt finally, decided on a chevron pattern for the HST border. I am slowly piecing the HST together, but work has been crazy. I should have some free time in a few weeks to finally finish my top.

Way to go, origamigoldfish! Slow steps are better than none at all. 😊

Congratulations on a beautiful finish!

Lovely, lovely work Worth all of the planning, cutting, piecing and frustrations. The end result is something to be proud of.
|
Beautiful, Quilting Vagabond! It's amazing the number of variations with the border, and this one is so pretty.
