I started working on this month's blocks yesterday afternoon, and the first two weren't too difficult, thank goodness. I love working with the Moody Bloom fabric I chose. I was on a roll so thought I'd start the third block. Wow! I decided to substitute a pineapple block which is similar. I've been working on a paper pieced pineapple quilt for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge anyway. It turned out great. I have no idea how I'll set these blocks, but they look really nice. I'll post a photo soon.

Here are my first four for April. That last one was a bit tough because of the "Y" seams. I had forgotten how Chiaverini includes them in her patterns. I substituted a traditional pineapple block for the one in the book because I have a pack of pre-printed papers for another quilt I'm making.

Here is my progress to date, April 16. The two lone blocks below do not look good when placed on point, so will go to another project. I did find that I needed more selection of colors/prints to make the blocks more interesting so purchased some additional 1/3 yd. cuts. I know, more than I will need but I like the color combinations and will use the extras in other quilts.
This is pushing me in new directions and pressing my courage to try new approaches to sampler blocks. So far I am pleased with the my efforts. Onward to more blocks this week-end. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png |
WMUTeach, I hadn't realized your layout was on point. That looks wonderful!
Mkotch, your blocks are beautiful! I am having the greatest time planning and cutting my blocks (going row by row) and pasting snippets to the mock-up board. My plan is to put together the assigned blocks as I get to them. I've never foundation paper-pieced, but have watched a video, and my next video will be Y seams, which I have never done either. This is definitely a horizon-expanding project. |
The on-point is a trick. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png It doesn't look like on-point until you start to lay them out. I need the practice with on-point layouts anyway. Just didn't plan on it this time. It does make me look at the blocks differently though, because some blocks, like my two orphans, lost their pazazz when put on point. Still like the layout very much.

Good morning lovely ladies ! It is a bright, sunny - if not a sombre day due to the Royal funeral, here in the UK.
I am sorry to have missed a few posts in the last couple of days and I am wondering if I am have a problem in the settings on QB. Every time I come off QB - when I go back in I have to "Log on " again and if any of you post a comment, I am not alerted to it until I log on again. Is this how it is or do I have a problem ? joe'smom, your block looks great, I love your on point blocks WMUTeach and see that some blocks don't lend themselves to do that. Marianne - your colours are gorgeous - so fresh looking ! How is everyone else doing ? you are all very quiet he he !! Beavering away perhaps ! Have a lovely weekend and hope to hear from you all soon ! |
