Yeah! My book arrived. I think I'm heading to Office Depot to get it spiral bound. It will lay flat then. Looks like fun.

Glad that your book has arrived, it is lovely isn't it ? Yes I had my book spiral bound - so much better and easier to use !

What a good idea, having your book spiral bound! I have a piece of gorgeous fabric from Williamsburg, Virginia that may be my my starting point for colors etc. As soon as my book arrives I will make color choices.

Just ordered my book and it should be here on Saturday! Yeah! Then off to Office Depot.

Hi Mkotch and WMUTeach, how nice to hear from you both ! That just adds to my excitement in starting this new project with like minded friends ! I have subscribed to this group ( I have NEVER done anything like this before so please tell me if I need to rectify anything ? ) To give you time to get the book and sort out your fabrics shall we start next month ? I thought perhaps if I give you 4 blocks a month and do that on the 2nd Saturday of each month with the first one on the 13th March.
I am making mine with Moda fabrics in Reds, Blues and Creams in a Winter theme !
I do hope others will join us and subscribe to the thread and in the meantime take care and happy hunting for your fabrics !!

The timeline sounds great! I’m excited to see all the color combinations!

Hi, Dotty!! I loved making Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler and I’m thinking about doing this one, too.... I’ll have to look at my stash and see if anything inspires me to commit to this. Either way, I’ll be watching the creations of others...

Several comments have requested more blocks per month - so if that is OK I will give out two blocks a week ! There is no pressure - busy week then catch up when you can ! Have a happy Tuesday !

Hi Teen, Did you make your Sylvia here on a QB thread, as I did ? I am sure I remember your name ? Be great to have you with us on Harriet's Journey!

Wow! Two blocks a week! I know that will be too much for me, but I will do what I can. I have white on white background fabric set aside now but will most likely need to get a little more eventually. I'm planning to use some of my favorite colors - turquoise, lime, purple, pink - mostly from stash, I hope.

Another option is to give two blocks a week, and then occasionally have a "catch up" week if several participants are getting behind. These 6" blocks can go very fast, so it might seem scary but I think once you get into it, most are going to find it's not too hard. And if you are using a constant background or theme of fabric, cutting more than one at a time might be a time saver.

It would be different if we had a lot of applique or paper pieced blocks. When I did Affairs of the Heart, one 6" applique block took me about 10 hours of hand stitching, and when doing the 50 PP stars, each star was made of 8 pp sections sewn together, and that was also a lot more work.

I like the idea of a planned OFF week to catch up as per MacyBaby's post #39. Only a 6" block is easy to roll off our lips but I bet that most of us have more than one quilting effort going on. When I stop to think about my own, I know of at least three and this would make four as well as trying to clear UFOs. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png I can spell "over commitment" but I still want to participate and make this quilt with the encouragement of other quilters. A little peer accountability is a good motivator.
