I haven't decided on a size yet, but I'm thinking probably around 26" square? I have a spare 30" canvas I can mount it on to give it some presence. The stripes will be pieced, the rest fused raw edge appliqué. I still need to play with the star and maple leaf placements and need to add one more star so the number of stars has meaning like the other elements. There are 13 stripes for the thirteen original US colonies and 13 maple leafs (leaves?) for the 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada. If I can fit in one more star to make it 21, that would be the total number of states (13), provinces (7) and territories (1) that form the border between the two nations...the longest international border in the world shared by the same pair of countries. :) |

This is one of the ideas I'm working on. Still in design phase I'm afraid, but it seems to convey what I'm trying to say. :o

Afternoon everyone,
Sounds like there's a lot of patriotism in the air, all over. Great. Muv, I missed the torch here, and the Olympics, and they were in my backyard just about. I regret it but don't regret the crowds. I'm taking advantage of your Olympics by buying some of the British themed fabric that is available now. ghostrider - Wow. Yes, that certainly conveys a wonderful message. I was up again at 5AM so got some work done on my quilt top. These are the base blocks: And then I weeded for about an hour and then finished the basic top: Time for a break from the quilt and a visit with the in-laws. I've picked out my inner and outer borders but haven't cut them yet. I'm happy with how fast this is suddenly coming together. |

JeanieG - That looks great. So glad you were able to join us. I see a matching apron in your future. :)
Jenniky - The triangles weren't as bad as I expected. I attached them to the ends of each row and so was on the straight of grain. Attaching the border even went OK, thank goodness. So many techniques in this quilt are new to me. Was up at 3AM today so worked on the borders. Still need to attach the side borders but need breakfast first. Will post a photo later today of the finished quilt top. Then, I take a break for a bit as I have to do a custom glass etching order for a wedding and make an apron with pockets for use at craft fairs. |

Quilt top completed. I'm not sure if it is patriotic enough, though. :D
