Right now I just want to get through this one and see how it goes. But I don't mind thinking ahead. |
Ok this is June and this one will be done the end of July. so...... Begin the first of Aug with the deadline the end of Oct and voting for one week and then a week for Patrice to tabulate the votes. then wait until Jan and start one with a 3 mos window of construction and the 2 weeks for voting and tabulating. and so on. We would have 3 a year if that is the pattern I set. with skipping Nov and Dec as that is a busy time for everyone. I like this timing. What do you think?

I like that idea! Good idea to skip the Season with everyone trying to get gifts made. Thank-you, Rhonda.

Rhonda, that sounds like the perfect schedule to me. Thanks sew much to you and PatriceJ for doing this.
|
thanks all. I hope this one goes smoothly and we can do a second one.
|
Yep, sounds like a plan to me Rhonda!
|
Can we enter if we've already posted a picture of the quilt in progress here on the Quilting Board?

Is everyone working hard to get a lap quilt ready to show in the contest? I hope we get a few to see!!
|
There is no way I can get one ready for this one Rhonda, but I'm sure looking forward to voting!
|
Where can one find the entries to view?

The deadline for entering your quilt is Midnight (Eastern US Time) on July 15th. Photos will be posted over the [following] weekend. How long that takes will depend on the number of entries.
i have received the first entry! :-) |
this sounds like fun!!!
|
Only just stumbled over this thread. Looking forward to seeing all the entries, maybe I even find the time to make one of my own.
|
Yippee Patrice!! Already getting entries! I can't wait to see them. We all know the talent on here is amazing!
|
Yes!! I was worried we wouldn't get anyone interested! You know when you try something new you never know how it will go!!
Hope to see some wonderful quilts everyone!! |
Rhonda - Thanks for initiating a great idea!!! I think this will be fun and interesting! It is a great way to spark everyone's creativity and get the UFOs and WIPs done :) I also like the way you are lining up the schedule for the ones in the future - sounds very fair and lots of variety :)
When you mention 'traditional pieced' you refer to squares and rectangles - am I correct in assuming that the traditional diamonds (example - feathered star, etc), hexagons (grandmother's flower garden)and triangles (pyramids) along with other 'traditional' shapes (tumblers) are all included? Can these traditional shapes be done in non traditional fabrics or does the piece have to have a 'traditional look'? example - using Kaffe Fassett fabric or other more 'modern' type prints and colours? |

I answered a question on would it be ok to use applique as embellisments. I said yes as long as it is only embellishments and not in the body of the quilt. We just need to have divisions between differant types for future contests. Hope this is clear. If not don't hesitate to ask! |
Thanks! :)
|
I'm not sure what you mean by traditional piecing. Do you mean hand pieced? I doubt I will ever do that.
|
Rhonda, could you post a listing of the complete rules so we don't have to read through all the pages to find out? I realize this is a work in progress but it would be so much easier and may answer some questions people are asking. Maybe it could be posted in a seperate area under "contest rules" Thanks.
|
all of the rules are posted in the first comment, at the top of page 1 of this topic. :-)
|
Oh fun FUN!!! I love looking at everyone's work.
Hey Rhonda for the next contest remember that you can vary by color as well - so you could make us do quilts in all purple, or all yellow or a combination of red and blue.... and one of these days we need to do an UGLIEST quilt contest - some of those are just hilarious..... or animal or flower themes...carnivals in honor of summer, summer, fall, winter.....oh dear I had better stop.... |

And anything else that has been added since then? A lot of us don't read beyond that point - - - - |

I have one question regarding the contest open now: would it be ok, to include small panels inbetween traditionally pieced blocks? The ratio panel:block would be somewhere around 1:5. It wouldn't matter, if this is not acceptable as most likely, I won't be able to get it done anyway. |

I have a qualifying quilt....and am ready to hand-sew down the binding....so, barring unforseen circumstances, I'm in!
