your quilt looks terrific

WMUTech - I sure do like how yours is coming together! Mine will likely look similar to your colorway :)
FrustratedQuilter40 - can't wait to see yours too! I have 55 blocks finished and will be working through the remaining background blocks this week - after I help my dear mother-in-law. She brought her sewing machine and fabric to my home so we could make a queen quilt for their bed. It's been years since she's sewn/quilted anything and we're keeping it simple but she's sure having fun! She saw my stack of irish chain blocks and now wants to go home and cut through her oodles of stash! It's fun to see her happy behind her sewing machine! |
Love how everyone’s scrappy IC is coming along...WMUTeach your quilt looks wonderful. Christine I look forward to seeing yours too.
Okay, I finally have cut my white backgrounds pieces and a gazillion 2 1/2” scrappy squares and I have assembled my first 2 blocks...is there any tips or tricks about pressing? How are most of you pressing your seams for both blocks so that they go together neatly? |
JMoore - For the scrappy block I press all vertical seems on the odd rows to the left and even to the right. When rows are sewn together I press all horizontal seams down. For the background block I press the vertical seams to the right and the horizontal seams up. I haven’t sewn blocks yet but I think all seams will nest this way. Open to hearing a better way! Be sure to post some pics of your progress JMoore!

WMUTeach it turned out beautiful. I started mine Sunday have about 14 blocks made. Hoping to find some time to sew today.
Thank you every one for your comments. It is so nice to hear my hurry scurry scrappy IC is pleasing to some one other than ..... me. :o |
WMUTeach...love your Irish chain quilt. Adding this to my wish list. Just trying to figure out what I want my background fabric to be.

Barb you can do maybe a red or pink background. That'll make it different. After this one if I do another IC I'm going to do either a green or blue background. Or I can find a batik with both blue a green colors for a background.

Barbarakibler23 - I saw a few IC quilts on Pinterest where the entire quilt was made with 2 1/2" squares - in lieu of any yardage they simply constructed the background fabric out of scrappy neutrals - if you didn't want white/neutral you could use a variety of another color 2 1/2" squares? Just a thought that I suggest only because you're the leader of the b-day candy group and I imagine you have tons of 'candies' :) If I had more that's what I would do next!

WMU - great Irish Chain! Well done.

Thank you Jane - this is another awesome quilt pattern! I am traveling now - and not sewing with the machine - but this will be my first one when I get back. I might even have to see about separating my candy just for this!
Love all the ideas and colors you all are doing. I can see a simple embroidery center too. So many ideas - so hard not to be able to sew! |
