Angel Food Cake
Just tried this last week. I made my cake batter and divided it into 3 loaf pans. Froze two and ate the other one with lemon topping ( I used a can of lemon pie filling). It was so good. This is great for us as a angle food cake is just too much for two people.

Sounds yummy! But my husband would be asking for the rest of the cake. His birthday cake was an angel food cake, cut off the top, pinch out the center, then fill it with whipped cream, strawberries, bananas and pineapple. If I made it now I would include fresh blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. (But those were readily available 20 years ago.) I quit making it because it needs to be eaten within 24 hours. Which my husband had not trouble doing but wouldn't do it now. (He also ate all the cake I pulled out of the center. )

Great idea to split it up. I make cupcakes for portion control with regular cake, I never thought of spitting an angel food. Thanks. Love quiltingcandy's idea of filling the cake. I can see why it would have to be eaten immediately!

I remember my mother using this idea for refreshments at a bridal shower but used sherbet in the bride's chosen colors (more pastels used then!). Once the cake was filled, returned to the freezer and then sliced for serving. Was pretty and very nice, esp for a summer event.
(Meant to post this with the quote about using fresh fruit for the filling.)

I didn't know if it would bake correctly if split up. I bought a square angel food cake pan. It's a real novelty. Thanks for the filling idea. I won't have to worry about getting it eaten up if I take it to a party.

I thought you are suppose to use a cake pan with the removable funnel like center...can you use a bundt pan? How are you baking that you are "pulling out the center".....never thought if loaf pans...thank you

Sometimes you just gotta be a rule breaker. I thought the same thing. This method sure helps with portion control. I freeze my bread in 4 slice pkgs. for the same reason.
