apple butter

Had a friend who made the most luscious Apple butter using a very large can of canned applesauce and red hot candies that she baked in the oven till thick. Anyone have this recipe?

Must not be using the correct terminology when I google it....did come up with something close though which I'll try. Thanks for your response QuiltS......

Look for recipes for crockpot apple butter. You could do it in the oven also but at low heat and stirring often.

CROCK POT APPLE BUTTER

6 c. applesauce
1 sm. pkg. cinnamon drops
2 c. sugar or to taste
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. cinnamon

Put in crock pot until cinnamon drops melt. Cool and eat.

I make apple butter in the crock pot starting with the cheapest applesauce I can find. I add sugar and spices. The trick is to leave the crock pot half covered all day and stir occassionally to thicken it. I put it hot in canning jelly jars and let it seal. Makes a wonderful Christmass gift when accompanied with a loaf of fresh (bread-maker) bread made from Krusteau mix.
