    Yes, when I made potato dumplings they were shaped like rectangles about 3 to 4 inches long. The next day, you slice the dumplings and fry them in a pan with some butter.

    Here is my cabbage recipe that my family realy like.Enjoy!
    Cabbage Creole
    1 head of cabbage(chopped to bite size)
    1 can of Rotel tomatoes
    1 can of diced tomatoes
    1can of Campbells cheddar cheese soup
    1 large onion (chopped to bite size)
    1 green bell pepper (chopped to bite size)
    ground black pepper(to taste)
    garlic salt(to taste)

    1 lb. ground beef(browned,drained and set aside)
    Directions
    Place first 8 ingredients in deep cooking pot
    Cover with water and bring to boil. Lower heat and simmer until it is in a soft stage. Add ground beef and stir.
    Test for salt.and add if needed.(or add more garlic salt
    if you like.)Cook til doneness is to your liking.

    Hope you enjoy. I serve this with hot buttered
    cornbread muffins. Yummy

    I don't think I could wait until the next day!

    Don't you boil them first? I always thought dumplings were either boiled or steamed. No?

    We make fried potato patties from leftover mashed potatoes, but we don't call them dumplings. I find it fascinating that so many people make so many different things from the same basic ingredient!

    In Polish this is Haluski. There are quite a few recipes for it on the Internet. Saw one with bacon in it too.
