as submitted by "Jan" on allrecipes.com

1 box Devil's Food cake mix
1 21 oz cherry pie filling
    1 tsp almond extract
    2 eggs

Mix these by hand until moist and well mixed. Pour into a greased 13 x 9 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

When cake is cooling on a rack, bring to boil 1 cup white sugar, 5 TBSP butter and 1/3 cup of milk. Stir constantly and allow to boil 2 full minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips. Stir until melted and smooth. Pour over partially cooled cake and spread to cover top of cake.

I used Vanilla instead of Almond extract, since I didn't have the almond.

I have made this cake for years, but I bake it in a jelly roll pan so that I have bars and more pieces if serving a crowd.

One of my favorites...and I do love it with the almond extract...have had the recipe for over 20 years and passed it on to many others.
