This is another one that Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without these yummy treats. :)

    1 cup smooth peanut butter
    1 cup icing sugar
    1/2 cups coconut
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts ( I chop mine in my food processor)
    1 tbsp butter/margarine

4 1ounce squares of semi sweet chocolate
    2 tbsp grated paraffin wax

Measure first 5 ingredients into bowl. With your hands, mix together well. Shape into 1 inch balls. Chill for 2-3 hours.

Melt chocolate squares and wax together. Dip chilled balls to coat, drain and place on waxed paper to set. Makes 4 1/2 - 5 dozen.

**the wax seals the chocolate so they don't melt in your fingers, it also makes them shiny.

    Enjoy. :)

In my neck of the woods (OHIO), these are called Bucheyes. You don't dip the whole ball in the chocolate so they look just like buckeyes.

My aunt makes these without the coconut but she calls them peanut butter balls. Before I found out I was allergic to peanuts, these were my all time favorites. Thanks for the recipe.

    They do sound wonderful.
Heather, Have you tried the sunflower butter, yet? You may be able to substitute it for the PB????

    Hey Everyone...

Okay, I did a bit of research...in other words I called my sister whom gave me this recipe asking what was with the name of these.... LOL

They are named for Davy Crocketts MUSKET balls...supposedly when he was young, he wanted to hunt, his father didn't want him wasting musket balls so he only got one a day...some days he missed his target, other days he hit it and brought dinner home... :)
