Some things are worth the trouble and this cake is. Actually, the best frosting for this cake is a thick non-dripping type chocolate icing as doing the sides of the cake would be much easier, but the thin type icing the recipe calls for seems to suit this style cake. It presents so well because it looks nice when sliced with the icing in the middle showing and the thin type icing on top to resemble the actual snack Ding Dong. Any thick frosting would never resemble the Ding Dong snack but what counts is the taste more than anything! Can't wait to hear how you like this recipe after trying it! Be sure and post your testimonial for others to see!

My Lord and My God, I hope these two cakes never get together and merge as they'd be known as a "Whoong Doong" cake!!!! That sure beats anything they got going in China!! ;)
