Do the eggs pick up the vinegar flavor if they crack open? Not that it would be a bad thing for deviled eggs or egg salad :D:D:D
I've never noticed any vinegar flavour in my eggs :-)

Maybe because I just like vinegar so if it's there, bonus.

I can remember using vinegar and food color in the water when dyeing Easter eggs and they never tasted any different.

You mean you put the eggs in cold water and then bring to a boil?

I always brought my water to a boil then put the eggs in for 10 minutes.

I start with cold water and add a good sprinkle of salt. Next time, I'll measure and see how close to 2 Tab. I am.
Once cooked, I drain and add a good layer of ice cubes over the eggs. When the ice melts I can peel them easier. I find it also helps to start at the larger end of the egg.
We have fresh eggs and sometimes I forget to keep some behind for boiling and have found the salt and ice to help with peeling.

Thanks for bringing up the subject of deviled eggs. I've been trying to come up with another side dish for Christmas. Deviled eggs would be perfect.

I like to start with cold water too, it seems to help them from cracking so bad. I try to remember to take them out an hour before hand and let them come up closer to room temperature too.

This is terrific! I just bought a dozen eggs to make Deviled eggs for Jim and me. I love them and only seem to see them at parties. Well, I cannot wait for the next party. I will be making my own. Thanks for all the great tips.

I tried adding salt to the water. It worked great!! I usually end up with scary looking devil eggs because they peel badly, but this time they looked great.

Here is another tip for the deviled eggs, cut them in half with a piece of dental floss, tie one end off to something stationary like a door handle on a drawer or something, palm the egg and press upwards against the floss, (dental tape doesn't work)
