No, we are just done mashing when there are still a few small lumps scattered throughout.

I like them both ways. When we had custody of our granddaughter, she only liked mashed potatoes. We liked baked. After a few times making mashed potatoes for her, I decided to make instant mashed potatoes when she couldn't see me. She couldn't tell the difference. Also after my husband and I got married, I used to love this casserole made with instant mashed potatoes and cream cheese. When my in-laws came to visit for the first time from NY, I wanted to make that casserole but I didn't want them to know I used instant potatoes, so I guesstimated as to how many potatoes I should use -and, guess what - it did not come out right.

smooth...but not against really small lumps. I also like a little cheese (mozzarella) and garlic salt in mine. There was a different suggestion I read somewhere with some other intersting ingreadient but I don't remember what it was. I'd be glad to hear what others like to add for a little different and extra taste to mashed potatoes.....!!!

My everyday mashed potatoes are Yukon Golds with tender skin still on, mashed to keep some lumps in.

Holidays call for no skins, smooth (but not soupy) with a melting pat of butter smack dab in the center of the dish. That goes back to both sides of the family for as far back as I can remember. Wouldn't be the holidays without 'em.

Why can't you put gravy on them? Oh maybe she doesn't want gravy on her mashed taters. Adds to the bacon and cheese. Her taters sound good but I would have to add gravy.
