my husband has been bringing cosmic crisp home. given to him by a person who is friends with a local commercial grower. i am not impressed. taste : ok. texture : too soft for me. i don't find it to be that "crisp". tried cooking with it ..held shape poorly & didn't give the sweet touch that i usually get by adding a bit of apple. i have a tree that was here when we bought our current home. it is huge, flavorful, crisp, sweet/tart ...we've taken it to various commercial packing houses to have it identified ..they don't know. so i just call it my Mystery Apple. and it is much much better apple than Cosmic Crisp ..IMHO
...and, like iceblossom, i live in washington state. in area Cosmic Crisp is being grown commercially.

I would consider the Cosmic Crisp an eating apple and as I mentioned before, I think the juice flavor is great. For me the texture is more reminiscent of a asian pear apple, than a regular apple. That might be what roguequilter didn't appreciate.

Those home/unknown/heirloom apples can be great, and you want what wants to grow, not what you have to baby along. Same thing with old root stock roses.

Jazz is another apple I like and recommend.
