I'm a bit confused, what about the salt and lard? Is it for a pie and crust or just the pie? I sounds really good, I'm going to try it for the 4th and add pecans.

ALSO, I heard that if you drink a diet cola, it cancels out the calories of a desert.

    The crust should read:
    2 1/4 cup flour
    1 tsp salt
3/4 cup plus 2 Tbl lard
    1/3 cup cold water

    the filling is:
2 cup maple syrup (boil until soft ball stage)
add 1 egg, 1/2 cup cream or rich milk, 1 Tbl butter, dash of black pepper and 1 Tbl flour.
mix well and pour into bottom crust
then you can add a top crust or add pecans for the top

somehow the first recipes for crust and filling sort of ran together ... hope this one is clearer.

Sounds very rich and interesting. A creamy version of pecan pie. I sometimes have used maple syrup as part of the Caro syrup in my pecan pie. Also very expensive to make.....2 C. real maple syrup would cost about $12.00 around here!!

Do you have to use lard? I have never seen it. Is that the same as Crisco?
