    Default Mold on maple syrup

I use maple syrup in several recipes. After I open the jar, I get this white mold on top. Not a lot but mold none the less. I suspect that it forms because the jar it comes in is glass. But since it sits in the cupboard, there is no light in there. When I use it, I have to skim the mold off. I don't remember mold on maple syrup when I was a kid. Maybe because it's in a glass container instead of a dark one? Does anyone have a solution to this problem.

My maple syrup specifically says "refrigerate after opening". I also got a film with possible mold specks. Haven't had the problem since I refrigerated it.

I keep syrup in the refrigerator. I pour a small amount in a glass pitcher and warm in the microwave for the French toast.

Maple syrup goes in the fridge after opening as far back as I can remember. I bet if you start putting it in the fridge, the mold will not be an issue.

We keep ours in the refrigerator as well. We had a gallon gifted to us and I'm the only one who uses it. DH prefers the fake stuff. It took a long time for me to use it - over 2 years. No mold.

We love maple syrup, it sure has increased in price lately. When I make pancakes for the grands I pour the syrup in the pan/griddle when the pancakes just about done. The heat of the pan does wonderful things to the syrup and coats the pancakes. My grandmother taught me that trick. I have always kept maple syrup in the fridge after opening.

What an easy solution! My mother never put the maple syrup in the fridge, just on the shelf. Of course, there were six of us and in Michigan and the cupboards weren't warm in winter. I only use maple syrup for cooking, so it probably stays around longer than other families..
