Since some people like my singing better than they like my pies I should give this a try. Have you tried this with lard?

candicane 09-29-2011 08:45 AM

Actually I perfer lard my mother used it, the flavor is better I know people scream bloody murder about lard, but what the heck ... some other stuff is worse but we won't go there.

haven't tried lard but that is what was used at home. I'm making a buttermilk pie tomorrow and think I'll try mixing oleo and shortening. bet that will be good. and have you tried the powdered sugar pie crust?

Love to share my recipes
and if I make typing errors just think poor old woman she don't know any better.

Powdered Sugar Pie Crust

6 T. melted oleo
1 c. flour
2 T. powdered sugar
Add flour and powdered sugar to melted oleo. Pat into an 8 or 9 " pie plate.
For a prebaked crust like you need for a cream pie bake at 325 for 25 minutes. For use as a raw crust, just put the filling in to crust and bake.

what did I do wrong? I did as the recipe said, boiling water, shortening, mixed with mixer, sifted flour & baking pdr & salt, put in frig for 2 hours & was a hard ball when I got it out! It felt great when I made it up & thought about rolling it out then & now wish I had! WHAT DID I DO WRONG? LOL will take a pic of my pie when it's finished! I added oil to it so it would knead enough to work with, put it directly in the pie pan & smooshed it out with my knuckles! Who knows, this one may be a winner!

Hmmmm mine says to roll it out right then and there when you make it. I of course use waxed paper. let us know for sure.
