Thanks to all for your input! High heat and humidity coming tomorrow in central NYS. The pork loin will go into the crockpot with BBQ sauce, a mac salad is chilling as I write this. Throw in a green salad and this orange salad and NO heat will be generated in the kitchen unless it's me having hot flashes.

LOL my son in law calls this yuck salad- he stated he would never eat cottage cheese in his life time and my daughter asked have you tried it ?? He replied no and had him taste it, now its a requirement at their parties and bbq's !LOL and its named YUCK Salad !LOL

Substitute buttermilk for half of the liquid and leave the cottage cheese out. Sounds crazy, but it is very refreshing in the summer. I use both pineapple and mandarin oranges. Some people do not like the feeling of the cottage cheese in their
mouth.

Dream Whip is still available at my grocery store also here in North Dakota. Haven't checked Walmart or Target. I had a box of it when I moved last November!

Our family called this "Jello Whip Salad" and in addition to the Cottage cheese, orange jello, mandarin oranges and Cool Whip (I always substituted homemade whipped cream without added sugar) we always put in fruit flavor marshmallows.

It was our kid's favorite holiday/picnic dish!

Yes, you can buy Dream Whip. The box has a recipe on the back for "Dream Pie". It is delicious, I make it all the tiime and use 2% milk and sugar free pudding. We eat it as a pudding unless I am taking a dish for some occasion, then I put it in a pie shell.

Just had to add .... I use Royal "Peach" jello.... It has a hint of peach and very pretty color.

You are almost correct, just few minor changes.
1 package orange jello
1 large carton cottage cheese, rinsed and drained
1 regular size can pineapple crushed and drained, save some liquid
1 can mandarin oranges dained
1 8 oz. carton coolwhip
Stir well till mixed. Judge how much coolwhip you need by taste. I use some of the pineapple juice to mix in with a cup or two of mini marshmellows, when marshmellows become soft stir them into the jellomix. Adjust taste and add more ingredients if needed. You can't fail.

We make this all the time. The original recipe that my Mom made was with Lime Jello and pineapple, cottage cheese and cool whip. My SIL prefers Cherry or Raspberry jello. I usually add mini marshmellows and chopped nuts. We call it Fluff.
