One more. My mom always made pumpkin pie using the recipe on the pie can, except she used pumpkin pie spice instead of all the spices on the can. Of course now she is gone and I cannot ask her how much she used!!! I have tried it and cannot get it "just" like mom's. Does anybody else make it this way and how much do you use? PS I love this whole website.

add up the total of the spices in the recipe and use that much of the mixed spice.

I do this too but I add a dash of extra cinnamon and sprinkle some on the top too.

That's exactly right. In fact, that what the Libby's pumpkin can recipe says to do.

If that's not the taste you're looking for, then your mom must have done her own "thing".

My mom used that recipe as well but she put the pumpkin from the can in a frying pan and cooked it over med heat for 15-20 min. Then mix in the sugar and spices. It is the way I do it and it is always awesome.

I use the recipe on the can. Sometimes I use 1 3/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice, sometimes I use 2 tsp. Doesn't seem to matter.

I look at the teaspoons of each of the spices that the can says to use and add it up, it is always good

Sorry. I like my individual spices, not the mix. I double what is on the can plus a little more clove, add an extra egg and a little all spice and baked almost 30 minutes longer!!

I use 1 tablespoon, not teaspoon. Good news you have a chance to practice before next year. My family loves the unexpected pumpkin pie!

I use the canned already spiced Libby Pumpkin Pie mix. To me it tastes the same as if I put my own spices in. I've never tried the "all in one" spices. And just remember, it never tasted as good as MOM made. Just something about mom doing it.
