    Smile "Rotisserie" Roast Chicken

Hello Everyone, I have this recipe for cooking a chicken in the crock pot, placing it on 'balls' of tin foil. I have done this before & it was wonderful.. My question is why couldn't I do this with a turkey breast?
I quite sure this would work but wanted some input as I have found some wonderful recipes on this board.
Thank you for any help or suggestions. Vickie

I do it with turkey roasts all the time. It works just wonderfully. I'm all for lazy cooking.

Did one last week, was going to do the aluminum foil balls, but my daughter had loads of carrots and celery, so we rested the chicken on the vegetables, (onion, too). It was great, chicken was tasty, the broth and vegetables along with the bones and juices were cooked for a tastey soup base. So easy and good, too. I wondered about the turkey breast as well. It seems around here, a whole turkey is cheaper than only the breast.

I do it all the time too .... chicken or turkey, doesn't matter.

I skip the tinfoil balls, and use an upside down dish, to keep the bird up out of the drippings. Sprinkle it with seasonings of choice and/or pour some BBQ sauce overtop.

I tried resting it on the veggies, but found they were just too greasy for my liking, and thuse were only wasted. Instead, I set them in on top of the bird part way thru, so they can stay high and dry out of the drippings. More like steamed veggies, as a result.

A quick and easy meal .... and delicious, for sure!

How long does the whole chicken take to cook in the crock pot, up on a bowl?

    Thanks Ladies,
I have an 8# turkey breast that I think will take 6-7 hrs. Since it's just DH & I, I'll be able to work on a quilt for my
newest great niece who should be arriving any day now. If only I could stop changing my mind on the pattern
    Happy Thanksgiving to all. Vickie

It depends on the size of the chicken and your crock pot.

I can cook it much faster in one of my crocks, than the other. My suggestion would be to take a look in the recipe book that came with your crock for a guidance on timing. Then do your first one, when you are not worrying about a precise dinner time. Then go from there.

The hardest part I have found was finding a plate/dish/saucer/bowl that fits the bottom of the crock, and is shallow enough to leave room for the chicken's height! Once you figure that out, then you are ready to go, everytime.

Another suggestion ............ make your meatloafs in the same way!

Just to let you know, I did cook the turkey breast in the crockpot & it was great. QltrSue thanks for the link to southern plate. Used her basic recipe with a little improv. & it was done 3-1/2 to 4 hrs. Very moist & juicy. Will definitely do this again. Hope all had a good day. Vickie
