From California. There's many very good one's in this state. So I limit my selection by places I frequent and type fabric/books they carry.
They must be friendly & knowledgeable or I head for the door. I'm an art quilter, so I want fabric & books that enhance art. The selection must turn over often enough to always have new to choose from.
So my absolute favorite is in an art community. The community supports art and art quilt events. It's a large enough community and a lot of tourist traffic to support turnover.
It's located in Pacific Grove, Calif on the Monterey Penninsula. Asilomar is there and hosts Empty Spools Seminars. It's Back Porch Fabrics.

My favorite shop is Bless My Stitches in Murphy, NC followed my Nonnies Attic in Andrews, NC
A few years ago when we were traveling I went to one in LadySmith, WI & they did a demo on the little Twister & got me hooked on that little tool but I don't remember the name.
I think the big thing for me is for the people working in the shop to acknowledge my presence & then to LEAVE me alone to browse unless I ask for help

I can't believe someone hasn't mentioned "Gruber's" in St. Cloud, Mn. They have a huge store, and the ladies there are very friendly and helpful. The first time I stopped in the store, my friend and I just stood there with our mouths open! There was just too much to take in! That would be my favorite, but I only get there once a year as it's a two hour drive from my house. Country Fabrics and Colorz For Quiltz are two stores in Brainerd that I also love to go to.
