I think hunter's star is one of the loveliest quilts. It's on my bucket list, but that bucket is getting very large. I guess the magazine just had to come up with something different, hence the raw edges, but I really don't see the point of making it that way. Onebyone - it does have the two arrowheads shapes, except for the blocks at the bottom that don't have stars.

I just finished a Hunters Star quilt top, doing it with HST instead of diamonds. No special rulers. It was very easy. This was sort of a test...now I plan to make a larger two color one.

Looks like only the blocks on edges don't have that second arrowhead in each section....it is hunters star...

I guess I am a bit surprised that it made the cover if a national magazine....seems like a "lazy" way of doing a great design......jmho

I was also disappointed to discover the method for making this version of the Hunter's Star. When I received my magazine earlier this week, I was really excited, thinking that FINALLY I would make something from the subscription. Then I read the method, and was frustrated. Why put that much work into a quilt to have raw edges? I won't be renewing my subscription. I'll find another magazine to subscribe to.

Gem state your little quilt looks really cute and what a clever idea. I have never seen a pattern for a hunters star done that way.

Thanks coffeecozy. I was going to mention that I had a couple packs of charm squares that I was wondering how to use. I just needed 3 alike and 3 neutral 5" squares for each block. I made the HST by sewing the colored 5" square with the neutral, RST, cutting diagonally, giving me 4 HST. They are on the bias when done this way. I have always been a little apprehensive about doing this, BUT they came out perfectly and were even easier to work with to get my corners matched! It was a fun project and went very quickly. I can hardly wait to start on the two color quilt!
