Should I sash these tipsy tumbler blocks

I wouldn't. I like them as they are, just the tumblers floating in that neutral. And I say that, being a huge fan of sashing; think I've used it in almost every quilt I've made.

Tartan makes a good point! I just did a search on other quilts like this and most of them don't have a sashing.... you could use the background colour to make a sashing and that would keep it looking similar to the original design but make it easier to piece the top together.
