Birthday Swap 2020/2021
#351
I started this quilt back in 2016, using charms from the 2.5" swaps that Djmat was hosting at that time. Unfortunately it became a UFO because I ran out of the white I was using, a thrift store cotton bedsheet. I knew there would be no way to find something identical, so it sat in the UFO draw for four years. I pulled it out last week and decided just to go ahead and use muslin that I have on hand. I also made a few extra blocks with my birthday candies from this year, to make it the size I want. It's a nice lap size now. Thank you all for the amazing variety! Not one fabric is repeated in the entire quilt, so it's my first official charm quilt! And thank you, Djmat, for hosting those swaps, way back when!

Thank you! This will be sort of a memory quilt for us since it has scraps from all the quilts we have made. It has been fun revisiting them. Also I have done some completely scrappy blocks and some very planned blocks. I hope the variety will look nice in the finished quilt.

Hello all and thanks for all the kind Birthday wishes last week! All the candies brightened my day as it rained continuously all day long. It was so fun to open the envelopes and wonder what beautiful quilts had been made from these fabrics -- often there were clues as a few African prints showed up or 1930s fabrics and I wished to see what they had created! Ooops - and I received my last envelope from nurseluann on Saturday so all my packages are in!
As for the question about doing a mystery -- the Will is strong but the Mind is Weak......or something like that. I've always wanted to do a mystery but I am trying to get a wedding quilt done for this summer. I might watch in envy or I might join in - it's a mystery if I'll be able to do the Mystery!
And work - every time I think I get a chance to breathe there is another change to the COVID restrictions. I'm part time but this week have been in every day. I'm the Accountant but today I was a sign maker all day for the regulations we need in place as customers will be allowed back in.
Wessing - very fun and colorful quilt! The trip down memory lane is always fun.
NZQuilter - great use of color in your quilt. I love color block scrappiness. When I need to get my sewing mojo on I make 6.5 inch squares of my tiny scraps, but each block is in it's own color world. Still no clue what I will do with them (actually maybe a clue, I keep seeing then as stars), but I love to make them!
I hope you all get a touch of the sunshine heading my way and have a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend!

Hello everyone......happy to see the packages coming in. I have Macybaby, Irishmom and Gaijin completed. Quilting lawyers birthday is tomorrow so we should hear from her to see if she has received everyones as well.

Y''all have some very nice & original quilts & blocks in various stages of completion. It's impressive how different you put the blocks & quilts together, making for such fine fabric art.
I try to draw as many different colors from my stash to do a swap. I cut off the maker's mark with an extra 1/2 inch to use in different projects (saw a cool purse made of those). I stack & cut 4 or 5 colors at a time & distribute into piles for each swapper, make 2 extra sets (keeping one & one extra - just in case). Smaller fabric that is left over goes into strips of various sizes (more projects). I finally have enough to finish a 1.5" PSQ thanks to fabulous & generous Quilting Board members & outside swaps, so Thank You for participating! Really not enough time to do a mystery quilt now but will enjoy watching your progress!
Happy Spring to all & Many Happy Returns of the Day to the May birthday babes!!!
hugs,
dj

I'm so excited for my birthday tomorrow.... I'm taking the day off of work to just do some self care in the form of sewing... and sorting some candies.
I am only missing one at this point. I'm going to double check again tomorrow for the 3rd time when I open everything to make sure I didn't just miss it in my lists.
I can't handle a mystery right now... I'm still working one finishing my niece's baby quilt... she's 4. I need to get that done before I start any new projects!
