I have three as I do not have good lighting in spots. I have a tall one, a medium one and a table one that I put with light behind my sewing machine. It's like heaven. (course I am over 21). Don't pay full price...use a joann's coupon and get 40 to 50% off. I could not have afforded it otherwise .

The first and last Ott Light that I ever bought quit working and went back to the store for a refund within 24 hours. I have since bought a floor lamp (not Ott) for hand applique work and a desk lamp (not Ott), both of which I like very much.

I think it depends on what you want to use it for.
I have an ott light and love it. It is a desk size and I can use it behind my sewing machine when piecing, or can put it on an end table to provide good light when I'm doing hand work. I cannot use it when i am free motion quilting because it gets in the way and I've knocked it off the table a couple times.
I also have and Ecolux LED light that I have stuck right onto the sewing machine that I use for free motion quilting. It gives off absolutely georgeous light. This one however is only good for sewing on the machine.

I have a table model that will either clamp onto the edge of your table or use a weighted base. The base is how I use mine. My lamp has a 26" long neck and the bulb is about 8" long. I have not been able to find another lamp that has such a long neck and gives off so much wonderful light. I use this over my sewing machine. There are two places you can adjust, so you can tip it up or down at the base or up by the light fixture. It's very easy to adjust exactly how you want it. When I bought this 14 years ago, I also got a replacement bulb. I've been thinking for several years now, maybe I'll need that bulb, but the original hasn't burned out yet. I use this lamp just about everyday for many hours. I'm amazed it has lasted so long. Very much well worth the price I paid. I also have a floor model over my ironing table. This one's fixture isn't as long, so don't have the same light output, but it works for me. Last year I bought a knock off brand to have another lamp on my cutting table. It works OK, but since it doesn't have the long neck, it's not the same as my table Ott-Lite.

I agree with lfletcher. I had a nice heavy brass type floor model. It lasted about a year. When it broke and I was sure I had a new good bulb (tried several Ott bulbs to be sure it was not a bulb problem), I took it to a lighting and lamp repair shop, and he said for what it would cost to repair it, it is not worth it, and he suggested another brand. I contacted Ott and the company did nothing.

I have a floor model OTT light behind my sewing machine cabinet. It's great light and I can bend the light to be just where I need it. However, since you can buy the OTT bulbs to put in any lamp now, I would not buy another OTT lamp.
Mine came with a replacement bulb and I have never had to change the bulb. However my OTT light quit and it was the ballast that had failed. It is an inline section of the cord, where you see a larger part. It will come apart there for replacement. The replacement ballast can be ordered from OTT and cost me $20 plus shipping. If it fails again I will not replace it. I will find another brand of lamp to put my OTT bulbs in. They seem to have a problem with quality control.

I bought a wonderful lamp at an IKEA for sewing that I dearly love. I saw it on Bonnie Hunter's blog and knew it had to be good if she recommended them. It's a gooseneck type lamp with a small LED bulb. Has a very heavy base and comes in white, black and colors. I absolutely LOVE it! I've since bought three more of them. I love that it has a very small head on it so it doesn't get in the way of my vision while sewing, yet I can bend it down where it spotlights the entire sewing area. I don't have good luck posting pictures, but this is the information about them.

I also have 3 other ott lamps, and wouldn't be without them. It's awesome for lighting up my sewing field.
