Fabric Outlet - What would YOU buy?
#31
YES on the FM store - forgot to list it. It is a fabric store that carries the most unusual fabrics and I have bought some of the most spectacular quilting cottons there over the years. Must be some sort of an outlet store. Not nearly as expensive as the quilt shops.

I never made it to FM. I went to the second Fabric Outlet store today and there were TDF different fabrics there. My self control is a hubby, a new vacation home in NC that needs to be furnished and a wedding in May. I could only realistically spend so much!

I really like the fabrics you picked I would have gotten the flannel, fleece and wide backing fabric. The reason is because the first 2 are expensive and cost me 70 bucks just to make them. The last one I would get is something I use all the time.

I like Merrily We Quilt Along (liked it better when they had the tea room!) but always find more at Quilt Sampler (on Glenstone ) Have fun. My Mom lived in Springfield and we always went to all the shops.

I make sure of the feel of the cotton before I buy it. It can be the most beautiful fabric in the world, but if it doesn't have the feel, I won't buy it,. The feel will tell you how good it feels to the hand - quality; and how nice it is to work with. My Mom taught me how to feel. I thought the Lady was nuttier than a fruitcake "Come here, Edie, and feel this." It took a little while, but what a wonderful feeling when you have felt the right fabric. It's like Angel Wings. It is one of the best things my Mom ever taught me.

Three of my quilting friends and I took a girls day yesterday and visited all those shops you've mentioned. At Fabric Outlet, I made three trips to the cutting table and only spent $20! Like you, I mostly got 1/2 yard cuts. I did buy a larger piece for backing. One of my friends bought 11 yards of minky for backing. SCORE!

Edie, I totally agree! I was looking at fabric for a friend that she chose from the website and some was just not "up to par" for me, so I passed. After using some Joanns FQ on my BH quilt, I'm MUCH pickier about how the fabric feels.
BeckyBryan, so glad I could ENABLE you! I did end up with a black vine on white backing that I know I'll use. I'm excited to get home and just SEW! Poke me, I'm DONE with basketball!
