Hobbycat, there is a Yahoo Group, might help with some questions down the road. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...ngmachine/info

Hobbycat - did you get any attachments with it? I have the "slim" version and after seeing yours, I'm pretty sure I also have the chainstitch spider and needle plate that would fit your machine. I already have what fits my machine, and they are not interchangeable.
Mine is on DH's bench right now - yea!

Miriam,
My son was a SM mechanic for 14 years. A lot of times when a machine would come in (usually the plastic wonders, but not always), they would take the machine apart and soak the shell in a mixture of water and Purple Power. Of course, you have to wait until the shell is dry before you can re-assemble it, but it's amazing what that stuff will clean off.
Obviously, you wouldn't use something like that for a machine with decals, but it sure does cut the nicotine smell and appearance.

Hello, all. I'm new here and I find this thread fascinating. I have my mother's Singer 500A, which I love, but it is missing the faceplate door. Does anyone know where I could find one?
Thanks so much!

I don't know where you can get one of those but the machine will work with out one until you do find one. Welcome to the crazy place.

Welcome singerchild..... we vintage quilters love hanging out here.... we learn so much from so many. Perhaps someone will have the part you need and contact you. If not, check out eBay.... there are often machine parts for sale there. You might have to wade through a lot of other things but if you find what you're looking for, it's worth it.
