Our WalMart does not carry the supplies, our nearest Hobby Lobby does. I have also purchased them from Amazon (both the canvas and the hook) and eBay. I use the cotton yarn (used for dishcloths) for the cord -- it is readily available and can be cut into longer lengths to avoid so many knots. They are fun, fast projects which can be done while watching TV. Can be used as hot pads, placemats, rugs, etc.

My gran did the same for me, I had my own box in her sewing room closet and she would add to it periodically - I was always so excited to find new fabric in MY box! Endless possibilities...although mostly I just made little pillows, LOL.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!! My DH thinks I'm crazy for salvaging dog food bags, but the ones we used to get were made out of woven Kevlar - talk about bulletproof! LOL (Now we get a different brand that's just thick plastic, I don't save those.)

Yes! It's those tightly woven ones that you want. I don't like the solid plastic ones either, although, I may try using one as an experiment. The loosely woven ones are junk too. The good woven bags are also used in holding chicken, horse, goat feeds.

I have used the heat part of the food saver to shape those solid plastic bags - you can have a lot of fun with them.
