Denim Quilt?

I have made 7 denim quilts (one for each of my grandchildren). I used their old denim jeans. There is no need to go out and buy denim material. If you don't have any old jeans, head for the salvation army or goodwill type stores. I made each block 10 1/2 inches (but that was personal preference. I started with 12" but that was too big of a block.) As suggested in one of the other posts, I did tie instead of quilt. Much, much easier! I also increased my seams to 1/2" instead of 1/4" (makes it more sturdy). I used flannel as the batting and cotton for the backing. Simple blocks are the easiest to work with. Too many seams in each block make it very difficult to sew and press. My blocks were mostly four patch or 10 1/2" by 4" strips. Make up your own pattern blocks. It's fun! Let me know if you need any more help or encouragement!

I have made & sold several denim quilts. I use fleece for the backings (no batting) & they are toasty warm. I have everyone I know bringing me their old denim pants, shirts & dresses as they know I make lots of them. So go for it. Your fur babies will love it.

In love with denim. I had my sons save their old jeans and then gave them back as rag quilts, but they are hard on the shoulders maneuvering though the machine. My only album here has their pictures and some more denim ideas. I'm sure yours will be great and will look forward to seeing it....

I just completed a "stained glass denim quilt" for my grandson's graduation gift. If I can figure out how to post a picture of it now......
This is just the top, but I do want to have it quilted by my friend's LA, using a light weight flannel for the backing.

So far I have made 3, 2 that were log cabins and a mix of denims and blues, and 1 which was a rag quilt where I used denim for the back, flannel for the batting, and then the top fabrics were a scrappy mix of red white and blue. Good luck

I have a denim ufo in the works cut ready to sew. It's a rag quilt that I plan on doing some lace and stuff on half of the blocks then setting them in every other one. some day it will be finished. It will be backed with flannel from old clothes from my deceased husband and my children. oh the memories!
