Not to be forgotten: If ever near Knott's Berry Farm, there is M&L's Fabric. It is on Knott and Ball. It is not a quilt store, but full of cotton fabrics for quilting. Be prepared to spend hours and $$ there. It is a quilter's amusement park!

Ruby Street Quiltworks in Tumwater
Sisters Fabric shop in Chehalis
Quilt Barn in Puyallup
Pacific Fabrics in Tacoma(they actually have 5 stores around Puget Sound)

We have a fantastic quilt shop in Wakefield, MA. It is called Quilters Common and is owned by two lovely sisters, Colette and Antoinette. They both have great personalities and are extremely knowledgeable in the quilt field. Its is located in the center of Wakefield, kind of hidden behind Alanos. The shop is loaded with beautiful fabrics. I hope you will be able to visit it, you won't be disappointed.

In Northern California Bay area I say Queen B's, Antioch CA. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is huge, and the staff/owners are very friendly. They have great sale days: 3rd Tuesday of every month is Quilt Back Tuesday where you bring in a completed quilt top and can purchase the quilt backing at 30% off, also they have a fabric of the day, one bolt (apparently chosen by the first customer of the day, the fabric that is sold the first of the day). Lots of batiks, Kaffe, Aboriginal, and lots of traditional fabrics.
Hope you make it out here. Also, a couple good stores near Queen B's is Wooden Gate Quilts in Danville and The Cotton Patch in Lafayette. These are my favorites in the Bay area, but there are about 20 stores in East and South Bay areas.

If y'all are visiting civil war battlefields then you'll probably be heading to Chattanooga at some point and I highly recommend Chattanooga Quilts. It's a lovely shop with a homey feel and the friendliest, most helpful staff I've ever encountered! Technically, it's in Ooltewah, Tennessee, a suburb of Chattanooga.

I live in the Finger Lakes of NY and we have a lot of history for your husband and many excellent quilt shops. We also have many Mennonite quilt stores selling fabric or quilts they have made. The Finger Lakes have also become the home to many fine wineries . Send me your e-mail if you would like some specifics or do a google search.

Here in Eau Claire, WI. We have a new shop called The Stitch Supply Company, just outside of EC in Altoona, wonderful fabrics and patterns. They also carry yarn. Then there's the Calico Shoppe in downtown EC, lots of selection and nice fabrics.

Stopped back in to see if your trip has started yet, and see it is a couple of months away yet. So wanted to give you a heads up since you will be traveling a lot this summer you should check into the Row by Row Experience. You can pick up a free pattern for a row at participating quilt stores. Most also sell the kit with all the fabric included.
