SWChick, I read that years ago when I was actually under the projected weight. I do remember there being another component that allowed for age. That formula was for a 25 year old. There was 5 pounds added for each decade after that, I think. So if I hadn't shrunk so much, I would have been allowed 140 + 20 for 4 decades for a total of 160. Sounds reasonable for a person 5'8" with a normal bone structure. My current problem is 1) I have lost three inches in height due to osteoporosis and missing cartilage in my lumbar spine, and 2) I have small bones. At my current height of 5'5", the 138 I'm wanting to weigh should be about right. Though 125 + 22.5 is 147.5. That would be doable for me, but heavy.
I wonder if we need to focus less on the scales and more on how we feel and how our favorite size of clothes fit?

I guess I am very dense I do not understand this. Where did the 95 come from. I am 5ft 2inches So my ideal weight would be 110??? I have been told that for years and at one time I was down to 109 but that was after a bad car accident when I was 20 years old. How did you find the number of calories needed.
Thanks
Thanks

GrandmaK, if your name is indicitive of your age, then I'd guess you are 50 or so. 110 + 12.5 (5 pounds for every decade over 25) is 122.5. Does that sound any better? There is also a wide range because of bone structure.
I still think we need to worry about how we feel, not the numbers on the scale.

The 95 lbs came from the fact that I am 4ft11. Like I said the doctors need to get together. My hip bones stick out like a longhorn steer when I get below 105 and that's been decades ago. 113 to 120 is where I look the best.

Dah I was still lost and I went back and read your formula again. I think what I was missing was the multiply by 11. So I need to decrease my daily calorie intake by 300 some from my ideal weight to loose an average of 1-2 pounds a week. Is that right??
I haven't even written this week down because I don't even know where to eat when we are eating out all the time living in a motel room!!! I had lost I think 12 pounds but bet I gain at least something this week.

The charts are so off. My mother was 4'11" and would have been scrawny at 95 pounds, so we're back to how we feel and how our favorite size clothes fit no matter what the scale says.
Right now I feel hungry for some split pea soup, so I think I'll get it started and walk the dogs quickly while it's not raining or snowing. When I return, the soup will be ready.

To understand how many calories you need to maintain a particular weight, take that weight and multiply it by 11 and that will give you the amount of calories you need to substain that weight. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, it is 200 x 11 = 2,200 calories to maintain your weight at 200 pounds.

The dogs are walked and the soup is ready. My son working in Huntsville, AL called to tell me about his day and that's he's okay, but he has no electricity and his phone is losing its charge so don't worry. His company has offered their heavy equipment for clean up and needs operators. Guess who volunteered.

Carrie?
Scakes?

Who else?
Irish, good news about your son!

I was searching to see if sandy checked in last night ot this morning. I know we are suppose to stay on track here but she lives in Alabama. I'm not sure if she lives close to where the tornadoes hit or not. I will txt her later to find out if she doesn't come on soon.
My emotional state is a complete wreckage this over the storms that hit Alabama. But on a good note we have sunshine, we haven't seen the sunshine in over 7 days. It's the first morning where we woke up without lightning, thunder and rain and a tornado watch. Thank you Jesus!!!!
