Default Choice of large or small blocks?

if you were going to make a simple scrappy --oh, say, pinwheels or squares or whatever -- what size block would you choose? small little blocks {4,5,6} or larger ones? or do you just follow the pattern?
I see some great designs, but think it would look better larger or smaller--- I find it quite an obstacle in choosing a design...and whether it is ever started or not! So-- do you prefer large or small?

It depends on my mood! This one is made of 2", 3" and 5" blocks. It was a fun one to do!

If I see one I think would look better with larger blocks I make it with larger blocks, and if I want it with smaller then that's what I do. Sometimes it depends on what scraps I want to use up. Each quilt is different and gets what I think is best for that particular project

depends on my mood, the size of my scraps, and the pattern too. When I want to use A LOT of scraps I prefer smaller pieces.

I usually make my blocks 6" or 8" finished. Just easier math and less blocks to make!

I like a 6"'or 8" the best but have made different sizes. A lot of the time if I want the fabric to be a focal point I will make a larger block.

I'm with ckcowl. I use different sizes for different quilts. Sometimes I thing big blocks work best and sometimes when the idea strikes me a smaller size seems like a good idea. Coming up on my list is to do a giant block quilt. Maybe like 30 inch pinwheels or something like that. Bigger blocks seem more modern to me.

For me it often depends on the fabric. If it's a fabric I really really like and don't want to cut up, I'll do the whole quilt in nothing but simple 12" squares! I did that with the Tim Holtz fabric that came out recently; king size top, just 12" squares. I just need to get this puppy quilted and then it'll be my new bed quilt! (This one is MINE, MINE, MINE!) I also have a floral quilt in just 12" squares in progress, special request from my MIL; based on a quilt she saw in a catalog.

But then sometimes 2" squares are just the ticket! I make a pretty wide variety of styles so I don't have any one particular size that is my default. It's always changing.

When its scrappy , I always pick smaller size blocks , they fabrics just seem to blend more.

It all depends on the size of the finished quilt. So if the quilt is smaller, lets say 60x60 or smaller, I prefer a smaller scale block.
