Default What are your thoughts on this?

I have a King size bed that I was thinking of either buying a neutral colored bed spread or maybe get backing fabric and have it LAQ. I like my quilts oversized and it's becoming a struggle just to piece the top. My thought was to have a main neutral cover and then make smaller quilts to lay just on top of the bed. That way I can switch out anytime I want and I would be able to handle smaller tops. I could have tops for every season and Holiday. Dumb idea?

Not dumb at all. I've thought about doing that also for the same reason. There are some beautiful neutral backing fabrics.

That is what I do. The spread goes to the floor so I don't have to worry with bed skirts. A neutral works with any quilt I put on the bed. I can change them as often as I want

I think it's a great idea. That's what some hotels do now. Neutral sheets and a runner at the bottom of the bed for color.

I do this too. It works very well for me. Let me go take a picture, as I am very pleased with the way it looks. Currently I have a quilt that is really a lap size on top of the queen sized bed in my spare room, a room that was my son's until he recently moved out. I switch out the quilts all the time. It is just a bed spread under the quilt, and it isn't really fancy, but I like it. (He left a book case that he didn't have room for...works well for some of my quilts too. )

The idea might work well for you too.

That is an awesome Idea!! I too find the King and Queen quilts very difficult to manage as well. So, NOT a dumb idea at all.
