Little girl’s pinafore
Many years ago (I mean many, many years) I purchased a little girl’s pinafore apron with cross stitch fabric inserted in the bib part. I did a Christmas design in the bib. I made it for my GD and now I would like to make one for her daughter, my GGD. I can’t find anything like that and am hoping perhaps someone here might have a suggestion. Thanks.

You could make it out of a small gingham check and do the kind of cross stitch they used to do in gingham. https://www.pinterest.com/errkaywa/c...ch-on-gingham/

What if you used the cross stitch fabric for the center of this pattern. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1605-McCall...2b12d01ae2b941

Oh, that pattern is so cute! I don’t sew any longer as my vision is not very good so I’m hoping tomorrow find one already made. And I will have my daughter do the cross stitch. I seem to remember getting the pinafore as a kit from a needle work catalog but no idea where. Maybe little girls don’t wear pinafores these days.

I don't know the name of the product, but they make a cross stitch material that you can baste in place on regular fabric and then do your cross stitch design right through the material. When cross stitch is done, you remove the basting stitches and then spritz the entire thing with water and the cross stitch material will start to dissolve. I then just pull the threads with my tweezers. Sometimes I have to spritz a couple of times, but it's always given me a nice look.

I have done English smocking, and pinafores are popular. I have seen patterns with an insert area to put the smocking. You could probably do an insert for the cross stitch. You could search on line for smocking clothes patterns.

I made pinafores for both my girls back in the day and then for my oldest GD who is now 17. I still have the pattern and it came with a transfer for the the cross stitching pattern for the bib of the pinafore. I figure I will make it for my youngest GD who is just turned 8. It was a Daisy Kingdom pattern. I haven't seen anything in years. My thought is there should be transfer patterns at the very least still available for cross stitching onto any surface. I am not a big X'er so I only pick things up at garage sales from time to time.
