I have made several baby quilts from 3 one-yard cut bundles. They seem a generous baby size to me. This one is for a 5 one-yard cut bundle and I just can't imagine a use for a baby quilt of this size. Here it is laid out on the top of a double bed without the last 5 inch border. The finished size is supposed to be 67 X 72 so do I....
finish as the pattern calls for since there really is a use for a baby quilt this size?

Stop now and split that last blue border to use for the binding (the pattern didn't call for any binding to be cut)

neither cause one of you has a better idea?

I love these fabrics - I've used flannel before but never of this quality. I don't know what I was thinking though to try this much fabric for a baby quilt!

Since you are uncomfortable with the finished size, why don't you stop after the yellow plaid and bind with the blue flowered material?
Another thought is that if you give them the larger size, the child will use it well through toddler hood and into early school years.

It is adorable, by-the-way, and looks so cuddly and comfty.

I would stop at the size that you are at. If you make it much bigger chances are that the mom will only use it as a floor blanket for the baby. By the time the baby becomes a toddler and big enough to use to it they will either A want to use something more age appropriate or B use one of the other little baby blankets that they have had forever. My son is 4. He still wouldn't use a blanket as big as the finished size. His favorite ones are still small enough for him to drag around!
Love the quilt though! Somebody is going to be a lucky baby!

Guess this one goes down to Live and Learn. I have two 3 year-old grandsons and agree with LovinMySoldier. I did use things this size for floor quilts, but this is too big for a toddler bed and too young for anything else. Too wide for a twin, too short for any bed... A great size for a lap, but don't know any kid who needs a couch nap blanket. Sigh. Since it came as a bundle I just took it as is without ... thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could almost have made two normal sized baby blankets from the beautiful fabric.

Hey! I always give a gift to older siblings when I give a baby gift. It could be a Big Sister/brother gift... maybe? If the big sis/bro isn't very old anyway.

What size are you at now? Is there any way you could maybe cut it in half and make it two quilts? You could use the blue that was meant to be the last border and put that at the top (or the side depending on what the dimensions are) You could applique the baby's name or something on the side that is a bit different.

Seriously, okay for the couch. Big enough to fold double and make a very cushy floor mat.

Okay - Lovin' you may be on to something there. What if I split those wide blue/green strips in half? I've folded this about how I mean. Finished size would be 36 X 56. I'd put the new blue borders only on the long sides. The plaid would be the last part of the top/bottom, but the blue/white would be the last border on the sides... that look too strange?

Yeah size does matter.... My 10 year old GD was curled up with a quilt I made her when she was 4. Guess it is time she got a bigger one. lol

I think I would measure the yellow piece and then mayebe the first boder. if that is near the size you want. Cut the rest off. You could probaly piece those long border pieces and use for the back of the quilt.
