these came from 2 different sales. the first one, the man's dad was a sewer and had died. said he had this little machine if I would like to see it. I looked in the box and asked what he wanted for it. $7.00.......I quickly gave him the money and ran. then we came to another one and the people were packing up as it was late afternoon. I mentioned sewing and they said they had just put a machine in the van and would get it. It was marked $10.00. Asked if that was his best price. He thought a moment and said $7.00. Again I handed over the money and ran. Both are supposed to be working, but at that price I could take the chance. Need to find a book on the Brother.

    According to this link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer_Model_27_and_127

The White Number 8 is a knock-off of the Singer model 27. If you can't find a White manual, chances are the Singer 27 manual will have the information you need.

apparently the man had research the machine and said it was the major rival for Singer at the time.
