So we did it!!! It’s the official end of the fabric moratorium.

So how did you do? What are your reflections about this experience? Was it tough or easy? Would you do it again? Did you manage to get projects finished during this time? What other thoughts do you have about this?

Personally, I’m really proud of what you have all committed to and achieved. You’ve done a great job! :)

I don’t plan to splurge – I’m enjoyed working on my WIPs and being more creative with the resources I have. Doesn’t mean to say that I couldn’t be tempted :)

wow, time flies! i had to buy 1 length of fabric to do a baby quilt - it had to go with antique embroidered squares. otherwise, i stuck to my willpower. hard to do with all the links to great sales posted here :)

Congrats to all of you who participated and came through the year with very few purchases. I'm going to participate on the next one. That means I'll have to stay away from this board though since I'm addicted to making purchases here like a gambler is to playing the Black Jack. Sad but true.

I am with Rose L - just spoke those words yesterday "no new purchases until I finish the projects begun". Of course I had to get a new ruler to finish one of them. My downfall is all the goodies offered in the classifieds here. And a true test of my statement - Houston Quilt Festival this weekend, I'm not gonna make it am I?????? (ps I live in Houston)

I've enjoyed the year. Oh I've been really tempted. In the end I made a couple of purchases (justified of course). Overall I'm happy with what I achieved.

Some things I've learned along the way are that:
    * there is way too much temptation on the internet
    * there will always be another "not to be missed" sale
    * credit cards are hazardous
    * I love the feel and thrill of new fabric :)

This year I've closed my credit card accounts, and next year I'm disconnecting the internet. Both for me - a really big deal. I didn't know how I would cope without a credit card, and I really don't know how it will all pan out without the internet. I'll give it a go for 6 months - then reassess.

I'm also working on some larger projects around the home. Mainly painting the exterior and fixing up the gardens. Talk about time consuming.

I have inadvertently done this. The last fabric purchase I made was in January for my birthday present. I am still working on the quilt and it is a simple strip piece construction haha! I just don't have the $ for fabric right now, and have been busy home with a new baby. So for me, it has been pretty easy to avoid temptation - I just haven't set foot in a fabric store in 10 months! If I were to actually walk into one, that would be a different story. I am a batik addict and if I have learned anything it is that there will always be a beautiful batik in the fabric store.

Everywhere I go these days I ask myself, is it a WANT or a NEED? If it is a want, it doesn't come home with me.

I can't say I would be that successful just doing it for the heck of it though - my moratorium is born of necessity! I admire you ladies!

    I failed :(

I joined late and as a result pledged to go until the end of the year instead of just until November.

Well ... someone on the QB posted fabric for sale that was perfect for a project that I've been collecting fabric for, so I succumbed.

I have not however purchased any fabric from a store. Just that one piece from QB.

KateyB is planning to co-ordinate the next moratorium, starting in January 2012. Not sure of the exact start date :)
