I just got a kit from CT.
My question is do I need to wash the fabric first?
At my quilt guild we have to wash our fabric before we make a block.
But this quilt will be for me and I do like working with unwashed fabric.
I just don't know which is the best way.
What do you think, to wash or not wash?

You are going to get many different opinions on this for and against. LOL I'm a pre-washer. I like to make sure that all the fabric has been shrunk and no bleeding of colors. I put it in my stash this way. Then when ready to use, I do starch it, which is something that I've recently started doing with piecing, but not with my applique (a little too stiff for me to manipulate).

I would not wash and this why. If the fabrics are all from one source, and probably the same fabric line, they will all shrink approximately the same if they shrink at all. Just my thoughts.

No to washing. It's yours and you can do what you want anyway!

    I was everything!
    Some do Some don't!

    If it's charms or strips I wouldn't.
It also depends if your adding fabric that's been washed with it.
    Don't mix...wash & unwashed fabric together.

    I don't pre-wash anything unless it's for a swap in which pre-washing is specified.

I like the feel of the fabric when it's still got the mill sizing in it, and I like how it behaves.

I also like it to shrink up and get crinkly and antique looking when the quilt is washed for the first time.

If I were doing a modern quilt that I wanted to stay smooth and flat, I would pre-wash the top fabrics, backing and batt to minimize the shrinkage.

I prefer to not wash, and also like working with unwashed fabric. I have never had problems with colors running, but am careful how I do wash my quilts.
