I love the turtle pattern from the other thread and decided to do a tut on it.

I pulled the pattern out of Block Base for reference and a visual and then did the alterations to it.

I use my drunkard path acrylic set. Cut two light concave and two light convex for the background. Four convex of a print for the shell, and two concave in green for the legs.

Make the head and tail, just cut two tail and head shapes and sew right sides together and turn, press.

Sew the head on to a green leg section and the tail to the other green section. Lay a print convex over each of these and sew around two sides, just to hold, now turn under 1/4 seam by the turtle head and sew down, same for the tail.

sew two print convex to two light background concave section.

    Sew the parts together, enjoy.

Acrylic templates of the drunkard path. I place the convex on top of the concave and drew around it for reference.

here you see a seperate tail sewed to the green legs and the concave part and the background, same deal for the head part.

here are the parts all cut

    the four parts all ready

Turtle block to put in a quilt.

So now you can see what this part of the block should look like.

Oh good, I will use this block in a baby quilt I am making but will find much more exciting and colorful fabric for it.

This block finishes at 8 1/4, so it's a perfect 8 inch block.

You can control the size by making your own templates. Just take a square, 1/4 of the size of the block you are making, use a compass to draw the convex, cut apart and add the 1/4 inch seams.
