You would probably want to go monochromatic, with a complementary color block in the 9 patch. Go from light to dark in placing the blocks after cutting

    Great pictures - self explanatory!

I recently saw a block like this with one more step.

They took a charm square the size of the pieces after you cut the 9patch horizontally and vertically (into 4 pieces).
They drew a diagonal line - sewed 1/4" on each side of the line - cut on the diagonal line.

It 'looks' like it's complicated to make but the directions look easy to make.

WOW ! Thanks for showing how to do the D9P. I have learned so much on this board.
Things I thought I could never do, I now I am gonna try.
Can't wait to get downstairs to my sewing room.
Wish I had more hours in my days.

Dear Barb, Yes, I understand about visuals, I too, find drawing a sketch or taking a picture helps me. Let me refer you to a picture under the June Doll Quilt 13, where my partner barbsbus posted a picture on July 2 of the doll quilt I sent her.

It is a disappearing 9 patch made with 4 dark, 4 light, and a common yellow center square for each of the four blocks to make the doll quilt. I just turned each fourth of each cut up block so the yellows matched into either a 2 patch or 4 patch. The neat thing about using a common center square is the outside could be any combination of fabrics and the center unifies it.

Make sense to you, if not I will try to describe it another way. Kathy in Colo
