    You can buy a thin interfacing type fabric meant for pattern making that is marked with one inch squares. It is very lightweight and could be snipped however you wanted for tying quilts. Somewhere in my treasures I have a couple that I actually bought years ago and they actually worked well.

    I love that idea, my grandma always tied her quilts so i like to do the same.
