Here's some of the quilt with different greys. Like I said. I had enough of the Zen Grey to do all the centers and inner vertical sashing. But not enough for the rest of it.
Pictured here are three other greys I could supplement with, in lieu of buying more Zen and paying for shipping. The first Strip horizontally is a mini botanical print
that reads solid. I could turn it to its plain (lighter)side which almost matches the Zen Grey.
Second is a slightly lighter grey that I've turned to the reverse so that its wavy print doesn't show.
On the far right is a dark grey. I don't have enough of any of the greys to finish the sashing. So please weigh in on your opinions. Really quite flip flopping in my head as to what to do.

Zozee,
i think my first preference is to use the second horizontal fabric choice--the one you turned to the reverse so the wavy print doesn't show--for the horizontal sashing as it seems to match the Zen really well. Then either of the other two would work for the outside sashing. i like your pink blocks, this will be a lovely quilt!!
looks like you got the block pieces to fit together just fine this time!

Thanks, Jeanne. I decided to go ahead and more of the Moda Bella Zen Grey. I just wasn't happy with my other options and would have ended up having to use 3 different greys. I couldn't just settle. Now that I have placed my order (and found a really fun flannel backing for it) I've got peace about it.

Great, Zozee! I will look forward to seeing the finished quilt. I love the combination of pinks and grays.

Jeanne S, is this a version of the Take Five quilt. I have a ton of scraps and would rather not do sashings for charity quilts. Please advise me if it would work out well not using sashings.
Thank you for your instructions.

Finally finished this chemo quilt for my friend. She knew I was making it for her, and when I asked her what color she'd like, she said "how about a variety of pinks for breast cancer?" So that was my starting point. In November! Yes, I'm slow. Took a lot longer with the mistakes, holidays, and unexpected hospitalization of my teenage son, than I had figured.
I was so excited when I went to her home yesterday with it. Before she even opened it, she started to cry. "I just can't believe that someone would do this for me." And once she pulled it out, she was all smiles. "It's so pretty and warm! I love it!" (The backing is flannel, which you can see in photos if you scroll up this thread a bit.)
That response makes it all worth it.
Pattern: Five Easy Pieces (thanks, Jeanne S)
Focus fabric: Moda "Anything is Possible" with my favorite "Lovebugs" pink (with "lovelovelove" handwriting in cursive)
Batting: Warm & Natural
Title: "Thou Art There" (based on Psalm 139:7-8.."If I ascend into heaven, thou art there. If I make my bed in hell, thou art there."
Size: Approx 60x72
While I'm not one to want to repeat a pattern (since there are SO many new ones to try!), I can foresee using this one again because it is easy and it shows off fabric well.

Farmquilter, sorry for the slow response but I have been traveling out of the country. I think you could easily make the quilt without dashing but it will look quite different---it will be your creation!
ZoZee, your quilt in pinks really turned out great and I am so glad she was thrilled with it!!
