Glue Basting With Elmer's School Glue

I'm doing a quilt as you go. The top and back are sliding a little after I sandwich them. Maybe a few drops of the glue will keep them in place while I quilt them.
I tried the basting spray, but the one that I have has a strong odor. I won't continue to use it.

I just took a Hawaiian quilting class and the instructor used this method to hold down the applique prior to needle turn. I spent 6 hours basting the design down while others used the glue method and were done very quickly.

A friend bought me Sharon Schamber's tips to put on the Elmer's Glue bottle; and it is great for doing the bindings!! Amazing how just a little press of the iron sets it.
I use Roxanne's Glue Baste It for applique, because of the very tiny tip.
