Glue works good for appliques as well. I use the stick glue that the kids use for projects. It lets the applique lie flat and keeps it stuck to the fabric while I sew. Pins always make a bumpy edge when you are dealing with tiny pieces. I love this idea for binding quilts. Thanks.

I tried it and it works wonderfully. I have to find a new place to store my Elmer's glue bottle thought. I had it on top of my sewing machine cabinet and grabbed it when I was cleaning my machine thinking it was machine oil. I was at the squeezing stage when I realized it wasn't machine oil!

I like the glue idea. To avoid getting stuck by pins when doing it by hand the quilters clips are great. Small hair clips are the same thing and much cheaper.

I am going to try this method.
Do you then hand stitch your binding or sew by machine???
I hand sew only becuase I think it looks better and I don't always catch the binding on the other side or will using the glue help to keep everything in line????

OH NO!!! I am glad that you caught it in time!!! I have to keep my permanent fabric glue hid so that I don't mix it up with the Elmer's LOL.

I tried the glue sticks too, but sometimes I found the pieces got wonky rubbing them with the stick. So I use Elmer's for them too :wink:

You only use a small drops and it is placed far enough away from the edge of the binding, so you won't even know it is there when hand sewing. I over did it on a scrap to test it, and I could still easily hand sew through those areas and machine sew. It did not gunk up either needles, either.

If anyone is doing the Fun & Done quilt, Elmers is a God send, espcially on turning over and stitching the back pieces to the front.
