Good morning all. I am gonna try to attempt to do this. I'm not good at giving instructions so please bare with me. Let me start by saying that you will need to make sure that you use the same cutting mat and rulers and or templets making this quilt or your squares won'ty be the same size.

I used 3 fabrics for this tut but you can use 4 if you choose to. It will work either way.

Here is my choices. Cut them into 2 1/2 in stripes selvage to selvage. You can make them wider if you want bigger blocks.

    fabric choices

    2 1/2in stripes

sew the stripes together lengthwise and press the seam

I used a 4 1/2in SQ for this. Place your templet with corners lined with the middle seam as in the pic and cut

    here are the small blocks

arrange the SQ's how you want them to look for the big block. Here are 2 examples

You will have these left over. These will be used to make 2 1/2 in HST's

Here is how to make the HST's. You can use them in the quilt with sashing betewwen the blocks or save them for a future project.

Cool! Seems like you're just posting the pictures and instructions but I have to ask a question.

Is there a lot of waste left over after cutting the blocks? What did you do with them?

    Thanks for posting

Ok there it is. I know it's not really good but I tried. I found this to really quick and fun to do.
You will be working on the bias once you have the SQ's made so be sure to starch, starch. After you get the 2 blocks sewn together and start to sew the Rectangles, start from the center and sew out and the seams will line up better.
Thank you all for your interest.

Once you use the scraps for the HST's there will be a little waste but not much.

I guess i forgot to say what size templet I used. It is a 4 1/2 SQ. Let me see if I can fix that.
The big blocks are 8 1/2 in, after sewn together with other blocks they will be 8in blocks. As far as how much yardage, that wil depend on what size quilt you want.
