I'm so glad I happened to go through the tutorial list, I had missed this when it was first listed. I love MSQ, I've learned so much from their videos and hadn't seen this one. I make preemie quilts for Threads of Love organization, and always looking for easy but cute quilts to make for the babies. I think I'm going to make my own "layer cakes but not 10" sq.; that would make too big a block for a 30 inch sq quilt.
Has anyone made their own layer cakes? Did you have stash to make 42 squares or did you repeat some of the fabrics. I would think that would okay, so long as there was enough different fabrics between the repeats so they were'nt repeat too often. Chris

i did two of these for my 2 dgd last christmas. they were scrappy penguins and polar bears. it went quickly, except i became obsessed trying not to use the same fabrics next to each other. both turned out nice. you will enjoy making this pattern.
