This is one I have been wanting to do for a long time, now I have no excuse because you have made the instructions very clear. Thanks.

Ditter,
This is exactly the quilt I chose to make for my very first quilt. Unfortunately I tried a king size first one! Now after looking at your very clear tutorial, I think I now understand how to join my quilt together with sashing. I was having a very hard time visualizing how in the world i would connect the blocks, becaude I had already squared up my blocks and didn't leave batting or material to work with for sashing. Thanks again...it is so much clearer now! Linda |
I just took a class here in San Diego last Friday ...it is so easy ..

DonnaRae: Would you tell what a crumb quilt is? Thank you

It is so nice to meet the people who share so generously.I'd like to reciprocate with an idea I got so long ago I do not know who to give credit to. You use a loose fitting shirt, remove the collar, detach the sleeves, open them at the seam and cut the shoulders leaving one body piece front and back. Lay the batting on the wrong side of the shirt pieces (discard the collar)and lay 2 strips of fabric about 4 inches wide right sides together, stitch them to the batting and shirt at the midpoint of the back (as was done on the string quilt blocks). Open the two strips and attach a single strip to the left and another to the right through the batting and shirt.Same on the sleeves and reattach the shoulder seam and sleeves to the body. Sew binding across the lower back, lower front, up the front and around the neck. I used florals and it made a nice quilted jacket.

Thank u so much for this tutorial. I love it. I am definitely going to make one similar to it. I made a strip quilt with 5" strips and put it width way so it was 60 " wide as that was the fabrics length. I did use the fusible spray and it made it easier to sew. This is in blocks so going to be tricky to do that. I didn't realize that string quilting is so versatile. As you can tell I am new at quilting. Can see string quilt I made on avatar.
Thanks again, anxious to try it. Diana |
